“How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?” – Satchel Paige

I am officially one year older today. I figured I would have a lot to write about regarding the significance of birthdays, but when I sat down to write this, I found myself at a bit of a loss for words.

I tend to put a lot of emphasis on events like New Year’s, the changing of the seasons, and my birthday when it comes to reflection and goal setting. I want to know exactly where I’m at and where I’m headed. This emphasis can easily start to feel like pressure though.

While a birthday is a tangible marker of where you’re at in life, it’s also just another day. It’s easy to say, “Well, I’m this age now, so I should be at this point in my career, have this type of relationship, and have this kind of lifestyle.” But really, that’s a whole lot of nonsense. Who says so? Are you happy and fulfilled? If yes, fantastic. If no, take small steps one day at a time to change your situation. Grand change won’t just happen because you’ve reached a certain age.

Today, all I want to do is celebrate the incredible life I’ve had so far and give thanks for another day to live the incredible life I’ve been given. And to all my friends, family, and colleagues out there who make it so, thanks! Much love.

  2. Happy Birthday, Rach!

  3. Hope you have an amazing birthday! It may just be another day, but it’s a really good reason to eat cake (and cookies, and chocolate).

    • Haha yes it sure is! And that’s definitely happening! Thanks Carrie 🙂

  4. One step, one day, one page at a time, the years mean nothing if the moments that fill them are not cherished, you are today where you need to be, your smile is proof of that. 🙂 oh, and HaPpy BiRthDaY from Levi and I.

    • Aw thanks BawB and Levi!! You helped make my year that much better!
