I’ve never been overly motivated to work out. As I’ve discussed in a previous post, until I “discovered” yoga and running, dragging myself to the gym was a real struggle. And despite how amazing I know I’ll feel after a good, hard run or a calming yoga session on a stressful day, when I’m feeling a time crunch, my workout is the first thing deleted from my daily to-do list. And when I say deleted, I mean I act like it never existed.
This habit stops now! My goal this week was to run, and run I did, despite deadlines (check out that alliteration!). I was chatting with a fellow entrepreneur the other day about how easy it is to say “Well, once I’m not so busy I’ll make more time for exercise and downtime.” We agreed: newsflash – this is your life. You will only get busier, not the other way around. If we don’t make time for the things we enjoy now, we’re headed for a life consumed by work.
Prioritize yourself. As a freelancer, I need to constantly remind myself that it’s not healthy to be stretched to the absolute limit. If I’ve taken on so many projects that I can’t find two hours to get out and run in the fresh air, then I’m working too hard. Balance, balance, balance in all things.
For me, there’s nothing like sitting back down at my computer after a rejuvenating run. I’m focused and raring to work again, and I know I’ve done my body a big favour. In a moment of frustration this week, I laced up my sneaks, ran as hard as I could, and then sat by the river in silence for a few minutes. I was 100 percent a different person when I got home.
What’s the first thing that gets deleted from your to-do list? Make time for it this week, if it’s something you enjoy. Either your body, your mind, or your sanity will thank you for it.
This week’s goal: Refuse to be bullied.
Song of the week: “La Gloria” – Gotan Project. A spicy little tango this week. Not my usual style but this caught my ear the other day.

I could not agree more with this post Rach! A good spin class is my break from the world on a busy day. This week has been filled with daily cross country ski sessions to keep me sane. The best medicine for relieving some stress… and that sore back from sitting in a library all day! (Have you watched this 23&1/2 hour video… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUaInS6HIGo ? )

Well done for running! I’m hopeless at exercise so this is really impressive!

And as you ran, with each breath came new inspiration, to inspire others, like myself… and i thank you 🙂
