Words are not my first love. Gasp. Yep, I said it. I am absolutely passionate about language (obviously, or everything I’ve written about in the past would be a lie!), but it still comes second to the love of my life, a love that I have nurtured since I was a wee one: music. It is my greatest ambition to combine these two loves and work with musicians who are writing their life stories.
And so along these lines, for all you other music lovers out there, I’ve compiled a list of some of my favourite bands right now that provide a great soundtrack to my work day. While each of the following bands has a great, unique sound that can be appreciated in itself, I’ve only listed bands that have a sound relaxing enough to be considered background music as well:
-Beach House
-Bon Iver
-Bonobo
-Deer Hunter
-Kurt Vile
-Local Natives
-Real Estate
-Volcano Choir
I would love to hear what you think of these bands, if you’ve never heard them. And I’m always on the hunt for new music, so let me know your favourites too. Happy freelancing (and listening)!
Namaste 🙂
I can only say that I’ve heard of Bon Iver, but I live in a cave. Since spending much time at my computer, I’ve had a hard time finding enough music that I can listen to without be distracted by while I write and work. My discovery and love for CBC radio has also tempered my music listening to a great extent. Good luck with your greatest ambition – it sounds amazing.

I only just discovered CBC radio this year – love at first listen. Thanks for your words of encouragement!

I never heard of any of them, but I’d say they have flavours of blues & folk music. Reminds me a bit of the early 70’s psychedelic rock. I usually work with something a bit more aggressive, as that keeps my mind thinking.
Stick with your dreams, as they always bring you joy.

Yeah definitely a psychedelic feel! I keep my more aggressive music for running. Thanks for reading 🙂
