In the Summertime

Ah summertime and the livin’ is easy! Whether or not you’re a freelancer, you are probably taking some time off in the next couple of months (or at least enjoying a BBQ or two out at a lake somewhere). It’s possible to get more out of these lazy summer days than just some much-needed R&R, however.

Just before the new year began, a friend and I sat down and went over some short-term and long-term goals together and promised we would re-visit these goals at the halfway point of the year, which is now upon us. While work may be the last thing on your mind while on vacation (as it should be), it’s important to take the time throughout the year to assess where your business is at, so why not do it when you’re relaxed and have the time to really devote to the task?

Spending time out in the mountains is one of my favourite things to do, especially in the summer. After a weekend in Invermere with some friends, I was reminded of how important it is to me to devote time to those I care about and appreciate the beauty around me. When I go over my business goals in the next few days, I’ll make sure that they align with these values. In other words, I need to assess whether my business plan will allow me the time and freedom to live the life I want. And spending a weekend away in one of my favourite places has also given me some concrete new ideas for how I will grow my business.

As I mentioned last week, vacation time provides a clear head and can leave you feeling inspired and refreshed. So make the most of it! Do yourself some good and spend some time thinking about what you really want and how you’ll make it happen. Then crack a cold one and put your feet up. Bring on the sun!

Namaste 🙂
