On Tuesday morning, I’m heading back to Canada after a month in Costa Rica. It’s been a dream of mine since I started freelancing to travel and work, so I decided to use this trip as a test to see if I could actually be productive and get work accomplished. First trip: success! I was able to meet my deadlines, do some personal writing, and still just relax and have fun.
Being down here has reminded me of the beauty of a simple life. The other morning, I went for a walk down the beach and saw a lone fisherman. He would go out in the water with his line, wait patiently, and then go back and sit on the shore. He did this for hours. Inspired, I decided to just sit and watch the water for a couple of hours. Thoughts kept creeping into my mind: “You should do something.” “Hmm, what do I need to do first when I get home?” “What should I write my next blog about?”
I fought through the distractions and continued to just sit. There is nothing more beautiful than just being. And as I mentioned in a previous blog, after emptying my mind, I was inspired to work and create again.
I am very much looking forward to getting back a routine of sorts back in Calgary, but the lessons I’ve learned here have been invaluable for my career. If you have the opportunity, I urge you to travel and work. It’s inspiring, refreshing, and motivating.
Thanks for reading. Namaste 🙂
