It’s Thanksgiving weekend, which means it’s time to reflect on all the things I’m grateful for (it’s also time to stuff my face with momma’s cooking, but that’s another story).
I have always had a lot to be thankful for – great family, great friends, good job, good health etc. This year though, I’m especially thankful for my career as a freelancer. So thank you to each one of my clients and all the amazing editors I’ve met in the past few months. You helped me quit my job in-house so I could succeed in my goal of working from home and making my own schedule. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be able to turn to freelancing full-time within a few months of starting. I am so grateful for this.
An extra-special thanks to Susan Toy of Alberta Books Canada. I don’t know where I would be without her.
In the past few months, I’ve learned that incorporating gratitude into your business is essential for good client relationships. While it’s important not to go overboard, a simple “thank you for getting in touch with me,” or “thank you for giving me the opportunity to work on this project with you” will go a long way with clients or potential clients. When I hear genuine gratitude in a client’s email, it makes me much more eager to work with them again.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
